CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) SCHEMES AND SKILL

DEVELOPMENT IN M/S. S.K. SAMANTA & CO.(P) LTD. (SKSL)

About the Company :

S.K. Samanta & Co. (P) Ltd. (SKSL) is a large infra-structural based company in the country and is in the business for the last 60 years.  The Company is handling Bulk Material Handling Plant EPC Projects, Industrial Complexes, Residential Complexes, Water Treatment Plants, Roads, construction of Educational Institution, etc.  The Company is having in-house facilities for design engineering of the entire project.

C S R :  

Before Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) found a place in corporate lexicon, SKSL already incorporated it in its yearly schedule.  SKSL regards that the growth of any company is ultimately a boon for the society, the under privileged ones in society.  With regard to CSR, SKSL has always taken the path of social investment, where the aim has been investing profits beyond business, for the larger benefit of society.  Here also SKSL has not been through stereotypical like other companies but channelizing resources to ensure that people have the bare essentials to make both ends meet.  Various innovative steps have been taken in this regards to maximize the avenues and making SKSL an organization with a human face to it.

Concept :

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is connected with the principles of sustainability.  An organization should make decisions based on not only financial factors but also on the social and environmental issues and consequence there upon.  Therefore, S. K. Samanta & Co. Pvt. Ltd (SKSL) also feels to practice its corporate values through

commitments to go in a social and environmentally responsible way.  The Company believes that CSR is a responsibility and not a duty towards the society.

Based on the above concept, SKSL formulated its CSR Policy as per the CSR Rules framed and notified by the Government of India as provided in Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, read with relevant rules thereof.  As per the activities indicated in the Companies Act, 2013, Section VII (Section 135) enhancing vocational skills of the people, has been considered as a high priority area by SKSL.

Skill Development :

1. Apart from the above, Pradhan Mantry Kaushal Vikjas Yojana (PMKVY) has been announced on 20th March, 2015.  Under this scheme training of youth for skill development is to be given by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) or through its training partners.  Various Companies with the guidance of NSDC and its subsidiaries have launched skill development / upgradation programme for their existing workmen or for youths in the vicinity.  One such effort has been made by M/s. S. K. Samanta & Co. Pvt. Ltd (SKSL) as well.

2. At one of its project sites located in Dipka area under M/s. South Eastern Coalfields Limited , Skill development / upgradation programme was launched with the help of “Construction Skills Development Council of India”  (CSDCI).   The details are as follows :

a. SKSL in partnership with Construction Skills Development Council of       India (CSDCI), entered into an agreement and the skill devlopment programme for workers engaged in the construction activities in Dipka area started from 19.11.2014.

b. To start with, Training Programme for Assistant Mason Helper Grade I, was started. Already Training for 6 batches have been completed. Summary indicating the training dates, number of candidates trained etc. are indicated below :

c. One Training Programme for Helper Carpenter level Grade-I has also been completed.

d. Participants for such programmes were picked up / selected from the local contractors and after the completion of the training and their performance assessment, it has been observed that the skill for such participants improved considerably.

SKSL has decided to continue skill development programme in other categories such as Shuttering & Scaffolding at Grade I level.  Training programme for Assistant Mason Helper Grade II and Helper Carpenter Grade II shall also be started soon.

 

SKSL is also registering under “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana” (PMKVY) as a “Training Provider”.  The objective is to become one leading training provider for Skill Development in construction industry.
